About the Lake
A safe swimming experience at the legendary Moorsee
The history of Burgäschisee in Aeschi is a rich one: as far back as 6,000 years ago, lake-dwelling farmers settled on the shores of this moorland lake. In the 12th century, the Lords of Äschi built a castle, but it was completely destroyed 200 years later during a battle. The only thing that still reminds us today of the medieval era of knights, lords and minstrels is the name of the village. The archaeological sites where evidence of the lake’s eventful past has been found have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. Information boards along the shore provide all sorts of interesting facts about the history, nature and culture surrounding this historic place.
