About the River

The Rhine rises in the Grisons Alps and flows over 1,200 kilometres to the North Sea. As one of Europe’s mightiest rivers, it offers a unique river-bathing culture: historic wooden bathing facilities such as the Rhybadi in Schaffhausen or the Rheinbad Breite in Basel invite visitors to take a refreshing dip right in the middle of the river. Swimming in the Rhine is the ultimate summer experience in many towns along its banks.
